It may seem like the film festival just ended but the awards are still coming in for Canadian talent.

In January, the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) will present a $10,000 cash prize for the best Canadian feature film that was released in 2008.

Last year, acclaimed actor, writer and director Sarah Polley won for her film “Away From Here.” She’ll be on hand this year to present the award, sponsored in part by Rogers Communications.

“We are thrilled to establish this film prize,” outlined Phil Lind, Vice Chairman, Rogers Communications Inc in a press release.

“Rogers, through our businesses and production financing programs, has a long history of supporting Canadian film. This prize is a wonderful way to recognize our country’s creative talent.”

Finalists for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award will be announced December 17, when the TFCA announces the winners in other categories including Best Male Performance and Best Female Peformance.

“Given Toronto’s stature as a film capital, the pre-eminence of TIFF, and the vitality of film criticism in this city, it’s only fitting to have an awards dinner on a par events held by critics’ groups in New York and Los Angeles,” TFCA President and Maclean’s film critic explained Brian D. Johnson in a statement.

“We thank Rogers Communications for endowing our Canadian prize and for their support in building our awards ceremony to new prominence.”

The 11th annual TFCA dinner will be held January 6.
